Operation Safe Driver

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced July 12-18 as this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week. This weeklong driver safety traffic enforcement and awareness campaign aims to identify unsafe drivers, deter dangerous driving behaviors and prompt positive driving habits through officer interactions with drivers. Data shows that traffic stops and interactions with law enforcement help reduce problematic driving behaviors. 

Request for Nominations for UCR Board of Directors Due July 13, 2026

The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Plan Board of Directors is requesting nominations of qualified individuals from each of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) four service areas (as those areas were defined by FMCSA on January 1, 2005) for appointment by FMCSA to the UCR Plan Board of Directors. The nominees must be from among the Chief Administrative Officers of State Agencies responsible for overseeing the administration of the UCR Agreement. The selected individuals will fill four vacancies for terms which begin immediately on appointment and expire on May 31, 2029.

Nominations of or expressions of interest by qualified individuals to be considered by the FMCSA for appointment to fill these four vacancies in the Board of Directors of the Unified Carrier Registration Plan, along with accompanying resumes, must be received on or before July 13, 2026.

Request for Nominations for Motor Carrier Industry Vacancy Due August 10, 2026

The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Plan Board of Directors is requesting nominations of qualified individuals from the motor carrier industry for consideration by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for appointment by FMCSA to the UCR Plan Board of Directors to fill a vacancy that has arisen. By statute, all nominees for the vacancy must be representatives of the motor carrier industry. The selected individual will fill the vacancy for a term that begins immediately on appointment and expires on May 31, 2027.

DATES: Nominations of or expressions of interest by qualified individuals to be considered by the FMCSA for appointment to fill the vacancy in the Board of Directors of the Unified Carrier Registration Plan, along with accompanying resumes, must be received on or before August 10, 2026.

Inspector Recognition

The inspector who noted the most UCR violations in June 2026 was Officer Gerald Klamerus, Illinois Commerce Commission Police. Officer Klamerus issued 30 violations. 

The Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Enforcement Subcommittee is pleased to recognize the inspector who issues the highest number of UCR violations each month. An annual award will be awarded to the inspector with the most cumulative violations over the year. The mission of the UCR Enforcement Subcommittee is to increase UCR enforcement, standardize enforcement practices, support enforcement agencies, and provide education and training resources. Reminder: UCR State Demonstration Documentation Due August 1, 2026

All UCR Plan participating states that have not yet done so are reminded to submit their demonstration documentation showing that UCR entitlement revenue is being used in accordance with 49 U.S.C. § 14504a(e)(1)(B) of the UCR Act.

Documentation must be uploaded to your state’s designated SharePoint folder no later than August 1, 2026.

Timely submission is important to support the UCR Plan’s compliance and reporting requirements. States that have already submitted their documentation may disregard this reminder.

Policy Spotlight: Training Attendance and Reimbursement Policy

UCR requires at least one state representative to participate in any new remote trainings (e.g., videos, webinars) within 30 days of its release, as well as attend any new live or in-person training when scheduled. UCR will reimburse one attendee from each state for reasonable travel expenses incurred for attending any mandatory in-person UCR trainings.

Retail diesel falling while futures soaring relative to crude

Retail diesel prices are continuing their steep fall against a background of analysts who are mostly trying to tell everybody the decline should not be assumed as the end of a war-driven era of higher prices. The Department of Energy/Energy Information Administration average retail diesel price fell for the eighth consecutive week, declining 16.4 cents/gallon to $4.668/g, published Tuesday, effective Monday.
